When I first started this website, my goal was to bring to light the interesting stories that are hidden behind cool cars. This is one of them.
Allow me to take you back to 2010 where the story of this heavily modified lancer gsr begins. Fano’s the owner of this vehicle. Bought this car as soon as he finished his army service, as a fun run around car. Since it was a bargain for the performance it offered.
After a couple of years of beating around the engine had a failure which resulted in the car being sold. The new owner of the car repaired it but managed to get into trouble with the law. Which ended in the car getting impounded. After being for 2 years in police captivity the lancer was put up for sale once again. During this period Fanos really missed his great fun car. Thus, as soon as the car was listed, he wasted no time in getting it back.
Early 2014 the car was returned to its stock form. After repairing mistakes from the previous owner. The car was registered again, and it was enjoyed until 2016. That was the year that the stock 1.8L 4g93 let go and made way for a 4g63. After enjoying the car some more, a decision was made to put the car under the knife once again. With the only goal being to create a reliable and good-looking fun machine.
Exterior
Regarding the looks department, the gsr was treated with a full evo 3 body kit. Complete with the aluminium hood and a very 90s spoiler.
I was quite surprised to learn that this is a stock body kit. With the only addition being the carbon canards,
this is a very mean looking car. Another interesting fact is that this was originally a non-sunroof car. One butchered Pajero later and this changed.
The car is painted in magnetic grey. A colour borrowed from the 2019 ford fiesta st. I usually find grey cars boring, but this colour really suits this car.
Powertrain
With the looks goal being met, it was time to make this a truly reliable fun car. The tried and tested 4g63 is treated internally with, wiseco pistons,eagle rods acl bearings and of course arp studs. Up top the engine retains the standard camshafts but features supertech valves, springs, and shims.
A turbonetics 60-1 rests on a manifold custom made by Nikiforos garage Whilst boost is regulated via a tial 38 mm external gate. The exhaust setup on this car is quite interesting. It literally stops 20cm after the turbine outlet. Yes, its extremely loud and illegal. But that is where the fun begins right?
Fuel is supplied via a wallbro 450cc pump and fed through 1050cc injector dynamics injectors. Excesses boost pressure is vented to the atmosphere via a greedy bov. As you can see the engine bay was miraculously shaved. Thus, any unused hole/bracket was filled in.
A G4 link ecu along with K-series ignition coils where used. So, it could make full use of the engine capabilities. While keeping cluster to the minimum.
All this results to 400 whp at just 1.3 bar of boost as seen on a (dynojet). As you probably guessed this built 4g63, maxed out the relatively small turbo with ease. So a bigger turbo its next. Not to be fooled though. (As I did). This is a very light car, paired with a very brutal anti lag system, it can launch like a bat out of hell.
In order to cope with the added power and excess carnage from the owner. The complete driveline was swapped from an evo 3. An additional benefit to the stronger driveline, Is the longer gear ratios. Clutch is upgraded an extreme 6 pack clutch.
Stance
One of the selling points of this car is the stance. No fender kissing here. Only function. Courtesy to this are BC 3-way adjustable coil overs. Rolling on a 16×8 square setup. If you follow our page you would know by now that I definitely don’t approve knock offs, especially on a build of this size. Still I got to mention that the white wheels suit this car very much.
Interior
Stepping inside the vehicle it lets you know that it means business. The only creature comfort in sight are the two recaro’s from an evo 8. Engine vitals are monitored via a defi display. Lastly a short shifter kit it the only form of entertainment to be found.
Being the owner and cook of opa souvlaki kiti, Fanos is a busy man, but he enjoys spending his free time wrenching on this car and other 4g63 powered machines that we might take a look in the future. Personally, I enjoyed shooting this car as much as I enjoyed listening to its story. You can feel that this car was built with passion on the wheel and not the internet’s approval. Something rare these days.
