90s vibes in a 1997 Nissan Skyline R33 GTS-T.

Remember the 90s? well I can’t tell you that I remember them. Since I was barely crawling during that period, but after hearing countless stories about them I think I can picture them very well. However, what does the golden era of Japanese automotive has to do with the 90s vibes of this skyline? Allow me to elaborate.

After learning about the 90s tuning scene through the internet and people who where actually there. This R33 feels like a blast from the early days of tuning.

Despite the fact, that the current owner acquired the vehicle in 2012. The car was built in this form a few years prior to that and not the 90s. So what’s all the fuss about? Well for starters the exterior.

Exterior

If you are having a hard time recognizing the body kit, I don’t blame you. This is an entirely custom fiberglass body kit made by Timotheos autobody . With the arches being gently pumped I must say the kit flows well with the lines of the car. Change my mind but this kit is certainly inspired from the 90s jdm wide body extravaganza. An R33 GTR stock wing completes the look.

The fitment of the body kit and quality of the paint job are nothing short of spectacular. The paint used is a custom mix made for this car.

Stance

The wheels of this car are without a doubt a prefect match for it and its theme. If you did not recognize them by now. These are 3 piece Weds Kranze Cerberus measuring at 18×8.5 and 18×9.5. A rare sight in Cyprus, especially given their price tag these days.

Tein coil overs are responsible for lowering the car. Even though they served their owner well for the past ten years, and still providing good feedback. The owner states that he wants to upgrade to something more modern soon. In addition Cusco strut tower bars are added front and rear to stiffen up the ride.

Powertrain

Under the hood an inline six in the form of an RB25DET lives and thrives. Whilst engine internals remain stock. Some supporting mods where made. In order to handle a modest increase in boost pressure.

Hanging from a modified exhaust manifold. Is a slightly larger from stock, HKS GT 2830 turbine. Controlling boost pressure is a 42mm tial external gate. While the expelled gasses travel through a blitz nur spec 2 exhaust. If this part of the setup is giving you 90s vibes the next one will.

Custom piping is routed to a big front mount intercooler and back to the factory inlet manifold. Moreover, excess boost pressure is expelled via a HKS SSQV blow off. Satisfying the increase in air quantity are 550cc denso injectors. Futhermore fuelling is provided by a nismo fuel pump. Lastly a tomei fuel regulator is used to set the required fuel pressure.

A Link ecu is used to control the engine. Plus the car was tuned on the road and not a dyno. So, based on a rough estimation the car is believed to have around 360 whp at 0.9 bar. Although, it doesn’t sound a lot. This being a rwd coupe, there is enough power to get you in trouble.

The driveline is beefed up with an arc clutch and a NISMO GT 2-way LSD. Needles to say the diff is basically 100% locked up  and can be a bit intimating to drive. Finally, another nice addition is the aluminium drive shaft. It not only saves weight in rotational mass but it is a lot stronger as well.

Interior

The interior is kept mostly in original condition. With the only main additions being the seats from an R33 GTR and the momo steering wheel. HKS boost and oil pressure gauge sit on a pillar mount. If this isn’t a 90s throwback then I don’t know what it is!

Being a 90s car made in Japan . There is an excessive use of plastic everywhere. But then again, the slightly curved centre console. Along with other details, provide a very driver-oriented interior.

It definitely lets you know what you are driving.

Past and the future

The owner bought this machine to achieve two goals. Drive something unusual. Whilst having a good time behind the wheel. Judging from the grind in our faces, after pulling a skid. I must say he definitely achieved his goals. The future is uncertain for the vehicle, since its either getting some upgrades or changing owner.

Whatever the future may hold for this build. I hope people feel the 90s vibes that oozes from the car.
