A Lancer Evolution with Jdm aspirations
Here on cyprusonwheels we are no strangers to Mitsubishi’s famous awd monster, the Lancer-Evolution , hell we could have this blog just for Evos , and we would not run out of material. But since we are spoiled, with seeing so many examples , it takes something different to raise an eyebrow.
Is it horsepower figures? Stance? An extreme aero kit? Well yes and no, allow me to intricate. We have talked before about finding balance , but this Evo takes it to another level.
But, why a lancer Evolution?
In this case, I have known the owner for many years, but I remember him being a honda die-hard all those years. Previously owned a heavily modified Integra he learned the hard way that the law loves to hate on Hondas. Call it being victims of their success, their affordability meant that they often ended up in the wrong hands.Of people that don’t express us as petrolheads and ended up earning a bad name with the law.
Sensible
From the factory, you could argue that Lan-Evos are sensible sports cars. You got four doors a big boot and enough grip to make you feel like McRae when driving on spirited roads.
So how can you make a sensible sports car raise an eye-brow without the ridiculous stance, four-digit power figures and body kits straight outta Tokyo auto salon?
Exterior
The first thing that the owner attacked when purchasing the car was the exterior. He wanted to stand out in a sea of Evo’s so first things firsts he laid down some JDM builts that inspired him and got to work sourcing all the bits and pieces.
One of the things that he had to have on the Evo was the Voltex GT wing. This signature wing from Voltex gives a whole new vibe to the car from any angle.
The rear end also benefits from an Evo 9 bumper update and carbon fibre extensions. The car features rex speed carbon parts all around Featuring carbon side and rear extensions as well as the front ducts and spats. Lastly, a do luck carbon lip along with carbon canards complete the front end.
Resulting in an aggressive but not too busy front end.
Wheels and suspension
The car is set low as possible (within reason for Cypriot roads) whereas providing firm control are d2’s rs 2-way adjustable suspension struts.
Other additions regarding the handling aspect of the car include a beat rush strut bar and a Cusco front end brace.
Wheels are the tried and tested (played out) xxr 527. Knock off or not they provide a decent look and fill up the arches nicely measuring at 9.75 x 17. At least the Evo rolls on Yokohama Advan tyres. Contrasting again the grey spokes are project mu rotors and pads. As per the owner states, it’s a great solution for brake fade on spirited drives.
Powertrain
You are looking at a 59 000 km 4g63 fair to say this is as fresh as it gets nowadays. But for the sake of making a bit more power, the owner went through some supporting mods for the bottom end such as ARP rod and cylinder head studs.
Up top, the engine treated to power division s2 cams 273 deg in/283 deg ex with matching retainers. A cometic head gasket provides some extra peace of mind when winding up the boost. Lastly hks adjustable pulleys with an hks timing belt help extract every last bit of horsepower this setup can provide
Bringing boost to the party is a garret gtx 3076 gen 2 sitting on a doc race exhaust manifold while the downpipe is a custom item made by kofteros. Exhaust gasses travel through a Tomei titanium exhaust system ending on a Tomei muffler whereas excess boost escapes from a tial 44 mm external gate. Custom intercooler piping made by kofteros was routed to an ets intercooler.
Another noticeable addition it’s the skunk 2 intake mated to a 70mm throttle body. Fuel is sprayed via injector dynamics 1050cc which are fed from an aem 350cc in-tank pump. Fuel pressure is regulated by an Aeromotive piece.
The engine benefits from an stm coil conversion and a maf removal. All controlled through a LINK ECU G4+ .Lastly competitionclutch help transfer the power to the 6 speed gearbox.
Interior
Interior wise the car remains fairly stock, although the stock interior of an mr is a very nice place to be ! Vitals are monitored through a greedy boost control and an aem afr.
All in all, this is an excellent example of what can be ideal for a streetcar. A nicely balanced setup without any exaggerations that make it unpractical. In my eyes, this car would make a decent track car, but the owner is a bit reluctant for a track day. He foresees that this Lancer Evolution will continue its active duties as a canyon carver for the years to come.
