In case the title didn’t give it away, today we are bringing you with us on a Miata-themed road trip and what’s it like!
If you are not familiar with the Mazda Miata, well you are probably living under a rock. Nevertheless, since you are here let me tell you a few things about one of the most successful drop-tops on the planet since by April 22, 2016, Mazda broke its Guinness World Record by producing its one millionth MX-5 !
Why the MX5 is special
You see the idea for a two-door lightweight sports car with the roof chopped off has been around since … Well since Jesus walked on earth really, Alfa Romeos, MGBs, all the way back to the 20s you can trace Roadsters. But Back in the early 90s, Mazda took a simple recipe and just perfected it
To begin with, you get fantastic driving characteristics, thanks to a double wishbone design up front and a multi-link setup in the rear paired with a lightweight chassis the MX-5 make direction changes feel almost telepathic!
Usually, the platform gets a lot of hate for being underpowered. That may feel true if you are used to turbocharged vehicles but try pairing up a rev-happy 4-cylinder with rear-wheel drive and an optional LSD differential and this little cute face roadster become an absolute weapon around the twisty stuff.
Finally, its looks. A long hood, short boot lid and roof line as close to the ground as possible it all sums up an iconic design that is distinctive even after all these years. From the NA to the ND, you always know what you are looking at.
The trip
So now that you know why the Mazda Roadster is so special, let me walk you through how this cruise went down. – Since we weren’t really there Andreas Charalambou who was driving a silver NB shared his views of the trip with us.
AC-‘’ initially we said to meet at Nicosia mall at about 10 am to wait the fellas from Larnaca to show up. Whilst waiting weirdly enough the security begged us to stay (everyone likes JDM) but unfortunately, once the guys from Larnaca showed up we had to keep going. Since a group of Miatas from Limassol already began the ascend to Agros
On the way to the mountains, it was awesome to see over 30 mx5s in a convoy. Really a unique experience.
The mountain drive was something special tho. This is where the little Mazda can show its true colours and with the majority of the vehicles in attendance being heavily modified. It was simply a blast.
While the sound of turbo whistles and supercharged whines was a fun addition. Moving towards Agros village, people and other motorists were taking photos of us and giving us thumbs up. Which was an awesome thing to experience.
Eventually we met the guys from Limassol and eventually found a location that could almost fit everyone in to park. After taking a couple of photos and having a break others went out for a coffee break whilst others went for lunch.’’
I think this is the first road trip I am documenting on our website, if you would like to see more, please send us a message on our Instagram or messenger. Stay tuned for more articles next week!
